Events and Exhibitions

We run regular events – from parties with special guest DJs an open-mic nights, to exhibitions to charity events.

Gallery Exhibition – Cathy Styles & Sue Langford

We’re delighted to announce that we have two new artists displaying their work at the Nip & Tipple this year:
  • The main room features several pieces by local artist Cathy Styles
  • In the bar area you’ll find six larger frames from Whalley Range photographer Sue Langford
Artist Cathy Styles’ works are drawn in pen and watercolour, and create a vivid series of snapshots of the city’s skylines, wet pavement reflections and the temporary structures associated with construction. These sit well beside recognisable and iconic buildings and bridges, and Cathy has suggested offering a prize to the first person to correctly identify them all!
Photographer Sue Langford, from Whalley Range, has chosen six of her recent images: a set of three from a stay on the shores of Ullswater, one from Loch Lomond and two from East Yorkshire, where she’s spent a lot of her time during lockdown.
Launch event: come and meet Cathy and Sue on Saturday 29 May 2021 from 12noon.

Photography by Sue Langford
Whalley Range based photographer Sue has been a regular exhibitor at the local Green Walk Open House weekends. She has also exhibited in central Manchester, Hadfield, Didsbury Arts Festival and next door at the Hillary Step. Last Autumn she was one of the featured ‘30 Artists’ that raised funds through a public auction for the Forever Manchester Charity.
As a keen walker, Sue’s photography tends to feature the landscapes she passes through. Water in any guise is always a draw: from coasts, lakes and rivers to reservoirs and canals. Trees are a firm favourite too, including woods and forests and – of course – the photographer’s favourite, a lonely tree.

For this display at the Nip and Tipple Sue has chosen a trio from Ullswater in the Lake District, one from Loch Lomond and two from East Yorkshire.

Paintings by Cathy Styles
Arriving in Manchester in 2017, Cathy felt she was witnessing a city transforming. She soon developed an obsession with capturing the impact of the construction that seemed to dominate the cityscape; huge temporary metal structures against once dominant longstanding redbrick buildings and cranes, cranes everywhere.
Cathy has lived and painted in South Africa and Egypt before moving to the UK, and studied with various teachers, including the Open College of the Arts.
One of the 453 artists to feature in the inaugural ‘Everyone’s An Artist’ exhibition at HOME in 2020, Cathy has selected 15 pieces for us at the Nip & Tipple.
